Mental Momma

I think I have found my twin. Though I am not a Mental Momma, I am simply just mental. I mean seriously, I have held onto this dream for twenty years, but yet I have never acted on it. Yes, I would consider that mental. Her ramblings about being a writer, if there was more time, space, money, and for her less or older children, reverberate in my head and in my writing. I would be a writer if I didn’t have to work 9-5 to make ends meet. I would be a writer if exhaustion would stop wearing me thin. I would be a writer if I liked beer a little less. I would be a writer if other dreams didn’t overpower this one. So until that point I’ll keep practicing and gaining motivation from people like Mental Momma and you.

Government shutdown expected to occur by midnight. . .

. . . but yet I write this blog.

Government shutdown expected to occur by midnight . . .
. . . but yet you all continue to read.

Government shutdown expected to occur by midnight . . .
. . . and we all sit idle.

What does it mean when the government shuts down?

For military families it means a whole week of unemployment.

At work it means angry travelers who must adjust their plans, when all government parks and monuments close.

For the EPA and Planned Parenthood it means an abrupt stop to all operations.

For taxpayers it would halt tax returns.

Seems serious, so why aren’t we all more worried? Why aren’t we running around with our heads off or heading into bunkers, like we do to prepare for hurricanes or snow storms? Why aren’t we standing on capitol hill with signs demanding answers, like we do for so many other causes, like abortion, the death penalty, and animal rights?

And what does it really mean when our government shuts down? That the people in charge, don’t know how to run shit. That we are in a worse situation than most people think. Face it people, our economy is not going to bounce back into its pre-recession state. We’re broke. This is how it is and it will only get worse from here. Wake up and smell the roses, or uh, should we say daisies.

WRAL does a good job with the impact of the shutdown.

And for those of you that freaked out like me. This has happened before. The last one was in Dec. 1995 – Jan. 1996, it lasted 21 days and was the longest shutdown in US history. Bill was president. So bad things do happen to good people, all you Obama supporters. And in 1980 the government ran out of money on the first day of the new fiscal year. I bet somebody got fired in that one. If this one actually occurs, do you think we’ll break that record?

On another note, check out Pete and Pete. No, those aren’t their names. I actually never named them, but they do get to go back home today after moving to the new house and cleaning their jungle. The monkeys and piranhas have already returned.
